MASTER BASKARAN MANIKAM
LL.B(UM), QLTT(UK), CRIME(UK), MSc Yoga (India), Asst Prof Sky Yoga
My name is Baskaran Manikam, born in the 70s. I am a Lawyer by profession and qualified in two (2) jurisdictions namely Malaysia and England & Wales.
I was born into a large family, with six (6) elder sisters. My father originating from India worked as a machine operator with Jabatan Kerja Raya. My mother was a full-time housewife and a single mother since 1985.
The best of my parents was giving education to all their children within their means and perhaps made it a priority. Things were getting difficult when my father was addicted to alcohol and domestic violence was part of my childhood. I am not intending to make my father a villain, but I am just picturising the lifestyle of someone who now understood what is life all about and the importance of embracing spirituality at some point in life.
Nevertheless, my mother being an “Iron Lady”, instilled onto us the power of survival without compromising education for all of us. We worked hard at our studies and I used to give tuition to cover my expenses. I was lucky to be the youngest and my working sisters came to my financial aid.
Hard work never fails, and I completed my STPM with flying colors and secured a seat in Faculty of Law, University Malaya. I remembered those days, only University Malaya offers law and only 10 seats out of 100 seats were made available for Indians throughout the nation.
I was lucky enough to be awarded scholarship by Kuok Foundation. Upon completing my law degree and chambering, I was called to the Malaysian Bar. My thirst to explore my potential took me to United Kingdom. I was self-sponsored and managed to get distinction in the qualifying exams in the UK to become a Solicitor of England and Wales.
I was offered a job as Solicitor in London and my drive for further qualification continues. I completed the highest qualification in Criminal Law with Cardiff University and was accredited the “Duty Solicitor” of England & Wales by the Law Society of England & Wales.
Upon practicing law in England and Wales for not less than 15 years, I decided to return home in 2015 to be with my people and family. I set up a legal practice with two other business partners and served the firm as a Senior Litigation Partner.
It was during these times that my search for myself heightened. Spirituality was always at the back of my mind but the knowledge was curtailed at the books and hearsay level.
I took a bold decision to go to India to seek this profound spiritual knowledge. I landed in Chennai, South India and completed Masters in Yoga with first class distinction. My practical experience started at Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu where I worked for few months. Thereafter I went around ashrams all over India to seek practical knowledge of spirituality. I went around Siddhars’ samadhis too and gained knowledge from those living Siddhars. I also completed Assistant Professorship with Vethathiri Maharishi Temple of Consciousness.
After spending nearly seven (7) years in India, I decided to devote myself in understanding the ocean of spirituality and acquiring the wisdom of the Almighty.
My destiny changed when I returned to Malaysia to bid farewell to my family. Those from younger and older generations sought assistance to understand spirituality. I immediately knew that my ultimate dharma is to promote the true essence of spirituality.
With the assistance of many well-wishers, I initially wanted to build a Sanctuary of Spiritual Sciences but it did not materialise due to high costs. I put the plan on hold for time being but remain as my vision.
After some deliberation, I decided to start small and this is when I decided to start a school with ancient gurukulam concept. With the God’s grace, the “Society of Spiritual Sciences Malaysia” was successfully registered and thereunder a “School of Spiritual Sciences” was formed in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur and now serving the seekers from the younger and older generations.
I am currently staying in the school and serving as a principal and care taker with noble intention of spreading the true essence of spirituality to my beloved people of Malaysia.
One must realise that spirituality is reality and mandatorily allocate sometime to understand spirituality and we are here to help you.
